REMINDER: 优蜜传媒 & Community Chorus Concert Is Sunday, April 21

Voices Rising 2

The 优蜜传媒 and Community Chorus will present its Spring Concert on Sunday, April 21, at 3 p.m., inside Fullerton Auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Conducted by Limestone鈥檚 Director of Choral Activities Dr. Gena Poovey, this semester鈥檚 chorus will perform works that fit the theme 鈥淰oices Rising,鈥 including a variety of pieces that celebrate the gifts of songs and singing. Some titles included are the traditional 19th century song 鈥淗ow Can I Keep from Singing?,鈥 Rollo Dilworth鈥檚 arrangement of 鈥淟ift Every Voice and Sing,鈥 as well as the gospel song 鈥淚 Sing Because I鈥檓 Happy.鈥

鈥淪inging is a natural part of being human,鈥 Poovey said. 鈥淪ongs use words to express ideas, emotions, hopes, challenges, description. Melodies, harmonies, textures and voices illustrate these messages in a way that goes beyond poetry. There are lots of uplifting, reflective, and healthy messages woven into this program 鈥 something for everyone.鈥

Poovey and the Chorus will be accompanied by Dr. Michael Langer, an Assistant Professor for Piano & Music Theory at Limestone. Jim Simmons has provided piano accompaniment for rehearsals throughout the semester.

Members of the 优蜜传媒 and Community Chorus include students in Limestone鈥檚 Chorus and Vocal Ensemble, as well as volunteer members from across Cherokee County. The members represent a variety of local churches including Corinth Baptist, First Baptist, Grace Baptist, Grassy Pond Baptist, Incarnation Episcopal, Limestone Presbyterian, Overbrook Presbyterian, St. Paul Lutheran, and Trinity Baptist.
