Limestone Faculty & Staff Members Receive Student Success Awards

Eight members of the Limestone College faculty and staff were recognized recently with Student Success Awards for the 2019-2020 academic year.

The recipient of the 鈥淥utstanding Tutor Award鈥� was Business Economics major Pierluigi Neri. The award is recognized as a celebration of commitment and service shown by a peer tutor in order to serve the Limestone community. Students who attended tutoring sessions submitted nominations and Neri was chosen by a selection committee.

Several Limestone team members earned the 鈥淔irst-Year Champions Award.鈥� Nominated by the College鈥檚 first-year students, the 鈥淔irst-Year Champions Award鈥� recognizes faculty and staff members who demonstrate an active commitment to the success of first-year students at Limestone. The 鈥淔irst-Year Champions鈥� were Dr. Megan Anderson, Assistant Professor of English and Interdisciplinary Studies and Chair of Interdisciplinary Studies; Chelsea Corbett, Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies; Dr. John 鈥淛ack鈥� Knipe, Assistant Professor of English and Spanish and Faculty Liaison for International Students; Karl Reed, Assistant Wrestling Coach; Dr. James 鈥淛im鈥� Prevost, Professor of Athletic Training; and Dr. Sibyl Vanager, Associate Professor of Psychology.

The final student success award given was previously known as the 鈥淥utstanding Student Success Advocate Award.鈥� The award was established in 2018 by the Division of Student Success to recognize a member of the Limestone faculty and staff who demonstrates a commitment to advocacy, innovation, and collaboration for student success.

This year, that award was renamed the 鈥淒r. Andrea Allison Outstanding Student Success Advocate Award鈥� in memory of Limestone鈥檚 late Director for Accessibility and Learning Enrichment & Achievement Program.

鈥淎ndrea was a beloved member of the Limestone community for five years,鈥� said Stacey Mason, Limestone鈥檚 Dean of Student Success. 鈥淗er tireless advocacy for students went beyond academics. She cared for them, celebrated their successes, and supported them academically and personally. Her commitment to student advocacy was an inspiration to all who knew her.鈥�

The recipient of the 鈥淒r. Andrea Allison Outstanding Student Success Advocate Award鈥� was Carolyn Ford, who is a Professor of Art and Chair of the Department at Limestone.

鈥淧rofessor Ford has mentored me on various occasions in various situations,鈥� said the anonymous student who nominated Ford for the award. 鈥淪he pushes me to become a better student, artist, and person. She is always available when a student has a question, needs a demonstration, or needs advice. Professor Ford has spent countless nights in the Ceramics Lab with students, demonstrating and inspiring her students to advance past their comfort zones and pushing them to become better students. I nominated Professor Ford because she deserves this award, Prior to coming to Limestone, I had never met a person who cares so much about their job and the well-being of their students.鈥�
