"A Classic Spring Choral Concert" Set For Sunday, April 18

Live music returns to Fullerton Auditorium on Sunday, April 18, as the 优蜜传媒 & Community Chorus presents 鈥淎 Classic Spring Choral Concert鈥 starting at 3 p.m.

Classic composers to be represented as part of the concert will include Purcell, Gabriel Faure, and Andre Thomas. Popular tunes will include 鈥淪tormy Weather鈥 and 鈥淏ridge Over Troubled Water,鈥 as well as a medley of Broadway tunes including 鈥淥ne鈥 from A Chorus Line, 鈥淭radition鈥 from Fiddler on the Roof, 鈥淪un and Moon鈥 from Miss Saigon, and 鈥淒o You Hear the People Sing鈥 from Les Mis茅rables.

The concert is being dedicated to the memory of Jean Painter, the mother/mother-in-law of community member Sharon Thompson and Professor Dr. David Thompson; John Travers, former Limestone Board of Trustees member; and former community chorus member Nanda Bedenbaugh.

The public is invited to attend the concert, and admission is free. As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, social distancing protocols will be followed.

鈥淲e are excited to be taking the stage 鈥榣ive鈥 again to celebrate the arrival and hope of spring with selections such as 鈥楽ummer is a Coming In,鈥 and 鈥楾he Bee,鈥欌 said Dr. Gena Poovey, Limestone鈥檚 Director of Choral Activities. 鈥淭o memorialize friends of the community lost during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are performing 鈥楲ux Aeterna,鈥 and to celebrate the strength of our country, we will be performing 鈥淚 Hear America Singing.鈥 To contribute to the hope of when the music and theatre industries can be fully open again, we are doing a medley entitled 鈥楤roadway Blockbusters,鈥 which highlights tunes from Broadway's longest running shows. We continue to operate with health and safety measures in place, and we will incorporate some visual effects related to those efforts as well.

鈥淎t the beginning of the semester, our students reflected on what they have learned during the pandemic that is important to community,鈥 she added. 鈥淭heir answers, such as compassion, patience, understanding, peace, love, and joy influenced the selection of the songs programmed for the concert.鈥

Poovey will be the concert鈥檚 conductor, while David Thompson will serve as the accompanist.
